A second tribute to Prop 8: the Musical - it's just as good the second time around

Dedicated to my fabulously backwards state of California...

The internet is buzzing with clip featuring Jack Black, Margaret Cho, Andy Richter, Maya Rudolph, John C. Reilly, Allison Janney, Kathy Najimy Jennifer Lewis, Neil Patrick Harris and more.

If you've already seen it, watch it again. It's faaaabulous.

The BEST part about this post??
The tags. Gays, musicals and politics. Ah yes.

'Tis the season (certainly in California) for gays and politics.

Just watch, soon we'll have "Milk: the Musical" starring Robert Downey Jr., Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane. It'll get a Tony, right after the movie gets an Oscar.

Delicious. Not sure that the economy argument trumps the whole live and let live thing, but whatever.

I haven't seen Milk yet, but (spoiler alert) the bits I've heard about make interesting parallel between Brigg's prop 6 and the modern day prop 8. The major difference is that Milk wanted people to be obnoxiously loud, and even attend the prop 6 support rallies. The old know-your-enemy thing.

Sadly, we didn't learn that bit of history well enough. I think most liberals (myself included) just assumed that everyone would see it our way this time.

No the economy certainly doesn't trump the "live and let live" notion, but sometimes, especially in satire, you have to sell the extraneous advantages to the other side just to get what you want. And when Neil Patrick Harris sells it, gosh darn it, I'll buy it! That man can do no wrong!

If people can eat shrimp, then people should be able to marry whomever they wish. Thank you Jack Black! (And thanks for posting this Jamie the music goddess!)
